Industrial Development Organizations

The Fillmore County Development Corporation works with the city of Fairmont for economic development in the area. The Fillmore County Development Corporation is a nonprofit corporation with 100 members. Funds are raised by annual dues, city and county governments and special projects. Transportation

Railroads – Fairmont is served by a main
line of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad with 18 freight trains
daily. Switching is done by local switch crews.

Air – The Fairmont Airport has a 4,400 foot lighted runway
with hangars and tie downs available. Other facilities include a lounge,
courtesy car and aviation fuel. Commercial air service is provided at the Lincoln
Municipal Airport, 56 miles northeast of Fairmont.

Utilities

Electricity – The city of Fairmont is a full requirements
wholesale customer of Nebraska Public Power
District (NPPD). Fairmont is served at 34.5 kV subtransmission,
with a 2,500 kV capacity substation and 2400/4160 wye distribution
voltage. The distribution system is owned by the city. The system is tied
to NPPD’s statewide grid system. Prospective customers should contact the village
clerk, at (402) 268-3341, for more information regarding
electric rates and services.

Natural Gas – Black Hills energy is the retail supplier of natural gas in Fairmont.  The community is served by a 3-inch line at 50 pounds of pressure. Tallgrass Energy Partners is the pipeline company.  For more information, call 800-232-1850

Communications

Telecommunications – The Windstream Telephone Company provides
telecommunication services to the Fairmont area with a digital central office
served by both T-carrier or Fiber. Installation and maintenance personnel are
located in York, 16 miles north of Fairmont. All major long distance
companies are able to serve this equal access community.

Post Office – The Post Office, newly remodeled in 1996, serves the
community and the surrounding area. The post office has one mail receipt and
one dispatch daily.
